The SA Sports Badge (SA Sportabzeichen) was established in 1933 and awarded in three grades (bronze, silver, gold).
Requirements included successful completion of various physical performance tests and annual renewal.
Until 1935, the badge was only available to members of the Sturmabteilung (SA). Later, eligibility was expanded.
The badge was worn on the left breast pocket of the tunic, in civilian clothes as a miniature version, and as a cloth patch on sweatshirts.
The badge was produced in three main types:
Type 1 (1934-35): Marked on the reverse with 'Eigentum d. Chefs d. Ausbildungswesens' and featured an award number.
Type 2 (1935-38): Reverse marked with 'Eigentum d. SA. Sportabzeichen Hauptstelle', initially with award numbers, later without.
Type 3 (from 1939): Reverse marked 'Eigentum der obersten SA - Führung'.
