DRL (Deutscher Reichsbund für Leibesübungen) in Silber

Zinc-based badge with good color retention.

Complete with intact, functioning mounting hardware.

Reverse marked with the manufacturer’s stamp 'Wernstein, Jena.'

The DRL Sports Badge replaced the DRA sports badge established in 1921 and was introduced in 1934.
The badge was awarded in three grades—bronze, silver, and gold—to men and women over the age of 18.
Eligibility was based on proficiency in sports as well as participation in official training and competitions.

The badge was worn on the left breast pocket of the uniform tunic, as a miniature version on civilian clothing, and as a cloth patch on sweatshirts.

During the war years, criteria were adjusted to facilitate awarding and retention of the badge for soldiers serving at the front.
In 1942, a new grade was introduced for those disabled due to war injuries.
Awarding of the sports badges was suspended in 1944.
