In recognition of German mothers with many children, the Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter (literally, the Cross of Honor of the German Mother) was introduced on 16.12.1938.
It could be awarded in three grades:
Bronze - after four or five children
Silver - after six or seven children
Gold - after eight or more children
It was worn on a long ribbon around the neck on special occasions, or in a mini form for everyday wear.
