The Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter (Honor Cross of the German Mother) was introduced on December 16, 1938, to recognize mothers with many children.
It was awarded in three grades:
Bronze: for four or five children
Silver: for six or seven children
Gold: for eight or more children
The cross was worn on a long ribbon around the neck on special occasions, and in miniature form for everyday wear.
