Additonal informations:
Landesschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon 6 was formed on 19 February 1940 in Hamm, within Wehrkreis VI, and was subordinated to the 406th Division.
Later in 1940 the battalion was transferred to Lüdenscheid, also in Wehrkreis VI, where it was quartered in the Weißenburg Barracks.

In October 1942 the unit was divided into Landesschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon 6 and Landesschützen-Ausbildungs-Bataillon 6.
In April 1943 these two formations were merged again to create Landesschützen-Ersatz- und Ausbildungs-Bataillon 6, which was subsequently transferred to Osnabrück, still within Wehrkreis VI.

In 1944 several new units were formed from the battalion, effectively dissolving the original formation. These were:
– Landesschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon I./6 in Osnabrück (Wehrkreis VI),
– Landesschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon II./6 in Rheinsberg (Wehrkreis VI),
– Landesschützen-Ausbildungs-Bataillon I./6 in Grave, the Netherlands, and
– on 12 June 1944, Landesschützen-Ausbildungs-Bataillon II./6 and III./6 in Weert, also in the Netherlands.

Landesschützen-Ausbildungs-Bataillon III./6 was reorganised as a field unit for the Western Front and was destroyed there in August 1944.

In September 1944 a new Landesschützen-Ausbildungs-Bataillon was created as a “Valkyrie” mobilisation unit with four companies (1,102 men) and incorporated into the 246th Infantry Division.
Ausbildungs-Bataillon I./6 was also mobilised in September 1944 as a Valkyrie unit with five companies (1,350 men) and absorbed as a rifle battalion into the 190th Infantry Division.
Ausbildungs-Bataillon III./6 was likewise incorporated into the 12th Volksgrenadier Division as a Valkyrie unit with five companies (1,296 men).

At the end of December 1944, Ausbildungs-Bataillon III./6 was reformed with two companies and assigned field establishment numbers.

In 1945 a new Landesschützen-Ausbildungs-Bataillon I./6 was established in Langenberg (Wehrkreis VI).
Landesschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon I./6 was transferred to Münster on 25 March 1945, still within Wehrkreis VI.
